About BRF

Founded in 2009 by Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center Staff Alumnus Joseph A. Bauer, Ph.D., BRF began with a generous gift from Cleveland entrepreneur Bob Reuter (Reuter Foundation), whose grassroots philanthropy made BRF possible.

Focus Areas: (1) Equitable drug design in comparative oncology; (2) Animal welfare, including lab-to-leash transitions; (3) “Helping Hand” information resource (2,500+ inquiries answered); (4) Promoting the human–animal bond in veterinary care.

Message from the President — BRF

Message from the President

“It is my distinct honor to have been elected President of the Bauer Research Foundation (BRF). I am committed to helping animals with cancer and promoting animal welfare. I am proud that all donations to the BRF go directly to support these efforts. I am also proud that BRF-sponsored research has never been performed on animals but rather archived tissue samples from veterinary clinics.

My pledge to you is that the BRF will continue our efforts to ensure equitable treatments for both people and pets with a constant focus on animal welfare and promotion of the human-animal bond.”

— Dr. Annette M. Sysel, President
